Submachine Network Exploration Experience

This is NOT a game. This is NOT Submachine 7 either.  It’s a project I’ve been working on for two years and it’s my best representation of what the submachine net is. You can freely travel between different locations, read some theories and observe how things work inside this network of submachines. There are locations that you might recognize from previous submachine games, there’s a lot of new yet undiscovered content, there are even locations that you think you know, but they’re somehow different.  Surely worth a look. The best part – it’s an open project, which means I can add more locations later on and it will all work together smoothly. So, tinfoil hats on and start exploring if you dare, because there are some dark places inside.

Some might say that it’s an interactive bridge between submachine6 and [upcoming later this year] submachine7 – and you know what? They would be right.

P.S. – please don’t post location lists in the comments. I will delete them. Let’s keep it unspoiled for those to come.

changelog:

- [19/06/2010] Addendum #1. 10 new locations (60 total); 8 locations from sub4; 1 location from sub5; 1 unseen location; 3 new theories;

- [15/06/2010] Major technical update. Redone the mechanics of location change in order to fix the loading problem when it froze after loading new set of rooms (aka the black screen of death). Works fine now in FireFox, not sure about IE though. Please use FireFox;

-[19/09/2010] Addendum #2.  10 new locations (70 total); 10 unseen locations; 10 new theories;

Theory. I believe that in each submachine game, you are a different person. In sub. 0 and FLF, you are Mur. In sub. 1 and 2, you may be Liz, who got lost, and has gone “to far” after sub. 2, and is now somewhere in the network. There is a posibility that you are Liz in sub. 3, or you may be someone else. in sub. 7, you may be Mur, trying to invade the core. I could be wrong. I could be right. But soon you shall meet another human. It will happen sooner than you think, and whoever you meet, may be friend or foe. But whatever happens, I believe that you shall meet Mur, in person, or anothe way, and he shall explain. But after sub. 6, I don’t think I can trust Mur. But do you trust Mur? That is up to you. And again, I may be wrong, or I may be right.

    Hello Mateusz,

I love your games. They are full of ingenuity and understandable complexity. You have mentioned your influences in previous games, but I haven’t read that “The Cube” was one of them. Have you seen this movie? The first one was very good, but don’t bother watching the sequel.

    Cheers and keep it up.

    H.G.Wells Says:

O.K. Forget about submachine part 1,2,and 3.Let’s start the story with submachine 4. what if most ancient deities heave actually been trans-dimensional aliens who’s technology brought forth genetically modified demigods .Murtag is such an alien. He doesn’t age and he can heal his injuries and other ills with enormous speed ,hes people arr almost immortals and they arr super-intelligent. They have spaceships and other advanced stuff . They have discovered an sort of an bubble-universe that has its own laws of physics ,so from our perspective its almost supernatural ( thus such designations like “karma energy” ).They have used their superior engineering science to construct machinery that utilizes the specificity’s of that other time-space continuum and of our time-space continuum. That’s how they have forced these unusual bubble-universe to create unnatural connections with our universe. The result was that these bubble-universe copied matter from our universe located closely around the connection points between our two time-space continuum’s. Also ,so it seems, the gravitational force is being transferred from the location of the original matter that was copied to the derived matter in these bubble-universe,since there’s not enough derived matter to accommodate for the mass needed to provide for an gravitational pull from chunks of rock and strata floating around in these bubble-universe. So ,these bubble-universe along with the atoms and molecules them self’s, also copies the constellation of the molecules located around the trans-dimensional connection points of our universe. That is why there’s an breathable atmosphere in that bubble-universe. There’s also structures suchlike cities and sculptures , apparently from different times of human history, that were copied by the bubble-universe. Sum of these object seem to be based on artistic style of ancient times, however they don’t show any traces of corrosion or erosion, while sum others object seem to be based on artistic style of recent past yet they arr so corroded as if they arr thousand’s of years old. That ,plus the constant transfer of gravity to structures deriving from locations on earth that don’t any longer harbor the original counterparts of thous structures, only leaves the conclusion that these bubble-universe can connect to different instances of time ,so it maybe used es a time-machine. As for Murtag ,why wold he be recruiting humans. Well there’s human mythology that refers to anthropomorphic gods sending humans of to adventures missions, why ???…i don’t now.

  17. 417
    H.G.Wells Says:

So, there is an conflict going on between Murtaugh ,and some other aliens lead by Elizabeth (she is an alien to). That’s why Murtaugh is recruiting humans, there’s an war going on. The humans go along, so they can explore the submachine system and obtain advanced tech. In submachine_7 there’s notes that hold remarks about a man ho knew what was happening after Murtaugh left. Also a note talks about a man referred to as an sociopath ,who only talks to Elizabeth . What if a member of some other team of humans recruited by some other alien got maimed in an fight with Subbot (from “Network exploration experience”) and was rescued by the group of aliens lead by Elizabeth . He lost hes arm in the fight. He was then nursed by Elizabeth and she modified he’s personality in order to manipulate him more easily, that is why other humans subdued to Elizabeth’s team of aliens referred to him as an sociopath. He was brainwashed ,and programed with information needed to reach the “Lighthouse” . Elizabeth also changed hes neural structure and implanted an computer virus into hes brain. Then he was sent forth to destroy Murtaugh’s “brainputer”. Wen he reached the “Lighthouse” he transferred the computer virus by connecting hes head with the..(???)… . As an side effect he acquired some of Murtaugh’s memories ,so he got disoriented, spaced-out, confused and disorganized. Than he began righting notes based on an combination of hes own and Murtaugh’s memories .Than he suffered from brain-hemorrhage and died. So the one-armed cripple character in “Submachine 2:the Lighthouse” WAS NOT Murtaugh since Murtaugh is AN ALIEN who can heal his injuries with enormous speed , it was this dead dude. He was also mentioned in “Submachine 4:the Lab” ,in an note that said that a person from the team of humans ,has forgotten the name of “…the one-armed man” ,so hes name apparently wasn’t Murtaugh ,since other notes mention Murtaugh being the one ho showed the humans how to travel threw the submachine system , but these one-armed man deed apparently not leave an lasting impression on the team of humans that he encountered so he is not Murtaugh .
And about the “Lighthouse”. What if its not an actual lighthouse ,what if those monochromatic images arr an assemblage of the delusive memories of the dead cripple ;( lighthouse’s arr ugly ,like comparing the illustrations from “Where is Waldo” , to the illustrations from “20 000 lengths under the sea” , fortunately the inside of the “Lighthouse” in “Submachine 2” don’t resemble an actual lighthouse at all ).

Maybe the aliens chose to look like humans in order to not prick as out ,or perhaps they arr futuristic humans from the future.

Mateusz Skutnik you must use the study room (from “Network exploration experience”) with the yin-yang symbols in an actual game ,it looks awesome. Don’t let it go to waste . Also feel free to use the information in this comments in an submachine game,i don’t have it copyrighted or anything .

    H.G.Wells Says:

    About “Submachine: future loop foundation”

The person in the patted cell is the one-armed man who was brainwashed by the alien named Elizabeth. She implanted an computer virus into his brain. The man was locked in an cell so Elizabeth and her team had time to clear the area, after they propped up everything for him to get out of the cell and go snoop around. All the images and the melody-plying device, it was all suppose too activate he’s programmed imperative to travel to the “Lighthouse”. His not suppose to know what’s actually going on, so he wouldn’t contact other humans, but all the information needed for him to reach the “Lighthouse” arr implanted into his subconsciousness ,along with the computer virus.

The reason why there is an code-based symbol-wending machine fore the tune-player ,is that in the case Murtaug’s agents become suspicious about these locality ,they wouldn’t figure out what tune was the final activation code for these sleeper-agent. Based on that information Murtaugh would know where the enemy agent might go next .

The reason why these sleeper-agent thinks that he entered the “House” thru the image rendered by the projector in the tower, and that he ken return to the tower thru an picture depicting the projector room,is that Elizabeth implanted special retention-scrambling programs in to his subconsciousness preventing his brain to preform coherent recognition of strategically important details ,that would otherwise be disclosed if his brain would get scanned by the enemy.

(I guess the machine in the “Lighthouse” ,that looks like an arcade console,is the mainframe of Murtaugh’s “cognition-puter”, but i didn’t figure out what piece of instrumentality is the connection device. Was the sleeper-agent so confused after connecting to the “cognition-puter” , that he masonryfied the brick wall at the base of the “Lighthouse”, in order to conceal the whereabouts of the connection device ,before he past off.)

    TheImmortalThought Says:

I have a theory about Mur if you want to hear it…
    you don’t…well to bad ^-^
    (It’s a little long)

I was thinking because all the other theories say Mur is either a robot or he is the Subnet or that he is already dead, because if not then he would be very old right?

Well what if Mur had found a way to stop himself from ageing?

I’m going to guess that when he lived in the lighthouse he was in his 20s or 30s and he was also around those ages when he lost his left arm.
(five months later he had to leave or be buried alive in the lighthouse)

Then at the lab (Sub4) you find a note that states Mur spent 32 years of his life exploring the Subnet.
“At first we thought there was just one submachine.
But then Murtaugh came along, and showed us the truth. His ability to create karma portals between locations let him explore more than one third of the submachine net. That took him 32 years. How foolish were we in those early years.” (So now he is most likely in his 50s or 60s.)
It took him 32 years to descover more than one third of the Subnet, But that was when he first descovered the scientists.
We know he has descoverd more by now, but how much longer did it take him?
Then when your exploring the Subnet you start to notice that things are old and rusted and falling apart. So it’s been awhile since anyone’s been around to take care of things.

Mur is still alive because he talks to you through notes and letters, But how do we know he is talking to you specifically?
    (Because of message shown below)
    “Mur@lab: hello?
    mur@lab: I can’t believe it.
mur@lab: you managed to disable the defense systems of the subnet.
mur@lab: now we can travel freely throughout the net. We can finally invade the core of the submachine.
mur@lab: unfortunately for you, your adventure ends here.
    mur@lab: good bye”
From the message we know he is at a lab. If he was the Subnet would he need someone to turn off the defense system for him?
So by Sub6 I started to think about how everything is old and Mur has been around for a long time apparently, he should be in his 90s or dead.
(That’s only if he turns out to be human, which I think he is because none of the notes in any of the other games state otherwise.)

Well we know that there is a room in Sub6 that can change time. (age is what I’d call it but it doesn’t really sound right)

What if Mur had discovered a way to use his karma arm to stop himself from ageing using karma energy or the same thing that makes the room in Sub6 change?

This is just a theory probably not a very good one but hey its my crazy theory and I’m proud of it. ^-^
(I just hope it made sense…)
And thank you if you actually read it.

    Leon XIII Says:

I believe that Liz and her people are part of a secretive group of humans living in the subnet, like Atlantians. Mur must have stumbled upon it and tried to spread news of his discovery. However,Liz must have learned of this and had his lighthouse buried to contain him. However,he escaped. Then,he hired some men to assist him at getting back at Liz,and take control of the technology they possess.

The player,I believe,is a bystander who was captured by Mur and was forced to go through these tests in Submachines 1,2,3,and 4. Mur probably wanted to see if he was useful. Then he sent the player to the edge and had him/her disable the defenses. Knowing he/she had served their purpose,Mur abandons them and attacks the core. The player then tries to survive and arrives in the core, where he is contacted by liz through her notes.

Mur’s discovery was the Wisdom gem, found in the temple in Submachine Zero. After he escaped the lighthouse,it was passed on to the player.

The FLF is most likely the first test the Player had to go through.

32 chambers is the exploration of one of Mur’s men,who got trapped. Who knows what happened to him.

Great game by the way. Got me hooked on this genre.

    Myrai Says:

Quite an amusing game – as a fast reader and curious person I actually prefer this kind of exploration to a traditional point-and-click game.

One thing I am disappointed by is the fact that the so-called “scientists” have poor research log technique. At least in chemistry and biology, proper notation is emphasized in all courses. While these guys are possibly physicists or mathematicians (who don’t need that stuff quite as much if they’re not going for patents), you’d think SOMEBODY would start labeling things compulsively. By which I mean full name, page number, and date on each sheet. But clearly there are a bunch of relatively ordinary people in the submachine too… unless they’re just researchers forgetting what they’re doing.

I have to say, guys, OCCAM’S RAZOR. How can we have the simplest explanation that encompasses all the events? We have some evidence. Theories posted around are just that. I believe only the things that I read that refer substantially to events in game. However, the “aliens oh noes” theories do bring up good points, often beyond the poorly spelled, rambling concept. For example, what is the defense system defending the core from? That was on a relatively nonsensical note, particularly compared to those in 399, 051, or 551. Personally, I don’t feel well-read enough to postulate anything sensible.

I mean, not to ruin everybody’s fun. I actually like the thought that you’re playing as different people at different times.

    N Says:

My theory is the submachine NEVER ENDS. Because if it’s like a looping trap area, the coordinates just go on forever. Sure, they would end eventually, SUPPOSEDLY, end at 999 because there is only a 3-digit location code…but then again in Sub 7 there was a note that said something like the submachine is always growing…what if later there is a 4-digit submachine?

  37. 437
    Aquailita Says:

    Nothing is what it seems.

What if, yes the Submachine is endless. The reason why it doesn’t look endless is because we can move from room-to-room in a location, such as the one from Sub5 that has a coil charger.
but look at the screen. notice how it has a black line in between panels as we click left and right and up and down. You’re probably thinking that it’s just game graphics, but what if it’s not? What if it’s actually a portal? Then there really would be unknown locations becasue we dont have those coordinates or a place to enter them.
You know how the SubCoordinateMachines (I’ll call them that) only have a place for X,Y, and Z coordinates? well, consider this: the SubNet maybe made them so the SubBots (if they exist) have a way of getting around. Maybe the ones without the SCM’s are FOUR digit coordinates? The fourth digit for the portal number? then there would be at least 9000 more. IN THE POSITIVE DIRECTION! If we include those negatives everyone talks about, not counting 000 obviously, then there would be a total of 130320. If you do the math, it is actually 130321, but I think 000 is not an option.
think of 000 as the origin, which it is anyway, but ORIGIN as in beginning. Our beginning. we statr from tehre, this is our connection to the Submachine system. the only SCM that is ever in 000 is teh one at the lab. before we reach the game in Sub4 and even during the game, we have never seen a SCM. only in teh 5th one an d forward. not in Sub0, not in FLF, not in 1, not in 2, never in 3. so, i we can conclude that in these games, we are still in the real world. 000 isnt a coordinate. in teh math class as children, we learned that zero is a place holder. 40002 without 0 is 42. alot less.
the number system is trick, it is suposedly endless. yet tehre are, as i said, only 130320 combinations if tehr are 4 slots. so to make it endless, we need an infinite amount of entry spots to enter the numbers 0-9, right. OR. we need an infinite amount of symbols for teh slots we already have. or both. you know those symbols used as codes in Subs 4,5,7, and FLF? the ones that look abstract? maybe they are only translations of 0-9 in the human language. The SubNet might have made tehm so humans can understand teh coordinates. its easier to remember a number like 926 (FYI this is a random #, not a game hint.) than a symbol that looks like a Y, a wierd t, and a deformed k. this goes back to teh idea that teh submachine or someone working in/wit it is using humans to tehir own desires.
the memory thing is also complicated. FLF was a game about reclaiming or reviving “our” lost memories. i use quotes becasue we dont know if that is us or us playing as murtagh for a change. once someone messes with your memory, reality as you percieve it goes ary. becasue who is to say that the person who wiped or hid teh memories isnt just lying and giving you false info. its like teh Family Amnesia Dilemea. one of the members in a family of 5, lets say a son, gets amniesia at home becaseu he fel down teh stairs (highly failistic). the older brotehrs will make him beleve that he once disliked chocloate cookies, so tehy could both get them all. teh reality is that he loved those cookies adn always took too many, leaving none. since the older bros have teh truth in knowledge and teh amniesiated son does not, he will beleve tehm. so which truth, after playing FLF, will you believe?
also, who’s to say we arent playing in right now? after all, the SubNet IS just a giant living computer system of time, space, and energy. so who’s to deny that as we sit (or stand) here, that this is an illusion and in the real world, we are lying somewhere in one of the 32 chambers, starving to death.
maybe we are murtaugh, using teh submachine to reverse time adn memory to undo his mistakes?

  38. 438
    Aquailita Says:

And if the doorways contain portals, then loops are just portal systems that are redundantly misplaced. There is no loop trap, the SubMachine must have simply taken the disrupted portal matter and placed it in a small area. its almost like placing two conectep portals one above the other and jumping through the bottom one.

  39. 439
    Aquailita Says:
